Faith Formation

Mother's Circle

Youth Ministry

Liturgical Ministries

Adult Altar Servers

Adult servers assist the priest during the weekday Masses at 8AM, as well as assist the sacristan with preparing the altar, lighting the candles and other tasks assigned. Training is conducted several times each year. 


Adult Funeral Servers

Adult servers assist the priest during the liturgy, as well as assist the sacristan with preparing the altar, lighting the candles and other tasks assigned for funerals.


Altar Ladies

Sacristans prepare the vestments for the celebrant, set up the altar, and prepare the Sacramentary, Roman Missal, and Lectionary for all Masses. They maintain the holy water font and various candles in the sactuary. They are also responsible for the maintenance of all altar cloths and vestments and arrange for their cleaning and repair.


Altar Servers

Youth altar servers assist at weekend Masses and at weddings and other special liturgies. All registered parishioners who are young gentlemen and ladies in the 4th grade and higher are welcome to serve. Interested third graders are considered on an individual basis.


Art & Liturgical Environment

The A&LE Committee provides leadership in setting the environment of the church during all the liturgical seasons. Its major responsibilities include decorating for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter, as well as other special parish events.


Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

EMoHC assist the presider in the distribution of Holy Communion.  Training is provided throughout the year.


Hospitality Team

The Ministers of Hospitality greet, welcome, and assist the faithful as they gather for worship. They assist in seating parishioners, help at the offertory, appoint and assist gift bearers, and direct the Communion procession. 


Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at the Mass in a clear, persuasive way and with interpretive emphasis so that the faithful may discover anew God’s Word, alive in our assembly.


Sacristans

Sacristans open the church and prepare the chapel or church for Mass. They also keep track of and order hosts, wine, candles etc. as needed and ensure all ministers (lectors, altar servers, etc.) have checked in.



Music Ministries

Traditional Choir -9:45AM

Practice Wednesdays @ 7PM

Accompanied by organ or piano, the choir sings Bach and Handel, as well as Spirituals and other classic works.”


Contemporary -11:30AM

Practice Thursdays @ 7PM

Accompanied by piano, guitars, bass, & drums, the choir sings songs such as, “Here I Am to Worship”, “Open the Eyes of My Heart”, and “Above All” Musicians also welcome to audition!


Youth Choir

Practice Tuesdays @ 5:15PM (before Faith Formation)

Open to all students grades 2-8. Choir sings for special liturgical celebrations including Christmas & Easter liturgies.


Bell Choir

Practice Tuesdays 3:30-4:30PM

 Accompanies Sunday liturgy as well as special Masses (Christmas, Easter)



Outreach Ministries to our Local Community & Beyond

The Angel Giving Tree

St. Thomas More helps over 500 families working with the Salvation Army in our own parish. Parishioners may take a tree tag and purchase a gift for a child so that the child(ren) may have gifts for Christmas.


Peace & Justice

This ministry offers opportunities for parishioners to work in justice ministries such as SURE (Sarasota United for Responsibility and Equity). They work to raise awareness of genocide and mass atrocities as well as help Catholic Relief Services by raising money for their ministry through an annual craft fair.

Prison Ministry

Ministry involves visiting those in prison as well as gathering information on death penalty laws to ensure each individual’s rights are being protected.


St. Vincent De Paul Society

SVDP is an international society of lay Catholics. They work within the local parish to help those suffering and in need. The Society serves everyone, regardless of race, creed or status. Members work in teams making home visits to those in need. Their help may include assisting individuals with payment of rent, late electrical or water bills, prescriptions, and food. 



Outreach Ministries to our Parish Community

Chelsea Cooks

Cooks plan, cook, and serve food for special events in the parish: Reconciliation Services, New Member brunch, etc 


Extraordinary EM's to the Homebound

Extraordinary Ministers to the homebound are specially trained to take the Eucharist from church to those who, due to sickness or aging, are unable to join us for the celebration of the Mass.


Guardian Ad Litem

Ministry members are court appointed advocates for children who come into the court system primarily as a result of alleged abuse or neglect.


Health Ministry

Members visit local hospitals twice a week in order to obtain a list of potential parishioners in need of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick or a prayerful visit by a priest.


Order of Franciscans Secular

Members are professed men and women with a lifelong commitment to live the Gospel following the example of St. Francis of Assisi.


Welcome Team

Ministry is responsible for parish Welcome Program: mailing out welcome letters, making “welcome” phone calls, assisting in planning and setting up of new member brunch, assisting with new member orientation.



Prayer Ministries

Contemplative Prayer

Meets Thursdays at 6:30PM in the Chelsea Bavaria Room.  Seek a closer, quieter relationship with God in the midst of calming, silent prayer.  All are welcome.


Prayer Shawl

Meets Wednesday’s @ 1:30PM in the Garden Room of the Chelsea Center.  This ministry reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace by knitting/crocheting items to give, working amidst an atmosphere of prayer. No experience necessary.


Rosarians

Crafty Ladies

G.O.D.D. Squad

G.olden O.ldies by D.ames & D.udes is a musical group of over a dozen talented instrumentalists and singers who entertain shut-ins monthly at area assisted living and nursing homes.


Knights of Columbus

Mary's Garden Upkeep

This ministry maintains Mary’s Garden and our Meditation Garden by pruning, trimming, planting, and weeding.


STM Cyclers

Join us every Saturday morning at 8AM. No experience necessary! Different groups bike at different speeds. It’s a 19 mi round trip on the Legacy Trail beginning at the McIntosh Road parking lot (1/2 mile south of Palmer Ranch Parkway E.). You don’t have to complete the entire route.


Quilters

Monday and Thursday, 9:30 – 3:00 in the Hope and Charity Rooms in the Spirit Center. The Quilters of STM are an interfaith group who meet twice weekly in the Spirit Center to sew a variety of quilted items for the benefit of the parish and Catholic Charity ministries.  Please consider joining us. The Men of STM

The Women's Club
